Regency - 1800 to 1820

Spencer- A very short jacket worn over the chemise dress. It is usually made in a dark colored velvet or woolen fabric.(See Photo Gallery)

Chemise Dress- A long gown with very high "Empire" waist, low neckline and short puff sleeves. In the beginning of the period they were made in muslin, fine lawn and batiste, in white or soft colors; styles were simple. By 1805 gowns became more decorative and trims, ribbons and ruffles were added. Silks, satins and soft velvets came into use.(See Photo Gallery)
