Gothic - 1144 to 1425

Kirtle-Womens' basic gown with close fitting bodice and flared skirt. It fastens by lacing down the back. The sleeves are straight, form-fitting and can be made with or without tippets (streamers that hang from behind the elbow). Other sleeve styles can be used.(See Photo Gallery)

Houppelande-The houppelande was an outer garment worn by both men and women. Men also wore a shorter knee length version. Garment was worn so collar and sleeves of undergarment were visible. The sleeve edges were finished in decorative designs. This one is finished in a "feather" design.(See Photo Gallery)
