How to measure correctly

Do not measure "loosely" or add extra allowance for "give". Adjustments will be added as needed. It is best if you can have someone take your measurements over any undergarments that will be worn under your garment, EX. corset, cage crinoline. Stand up straight and do not look down, this will affect measurement accuracy. If you must take your own measurements, try to be as accurate as possible, as this will affect the garment fit. The following measurements are needed:

Neck-Measure around neck, just above shoulders.

Arm-Two measurements are needed.1-With arm slightly bent, measure from the shoulder point (the hollow point where shoulder and arm meet) down outside arm to the elbow. 2.from the elbow to the wrist. For garments with fitted sleeves you also need: 1-upper arm circumference 2- wrist circumference 3-just above elbow circumference (if design calls for it.)

Back Shoulder-From shoulder point to shoulder point across back.

Center Back-From base of neck at center back down spine to natural waist.

Center Front-From front collar bone down to natural waist.

Bust/Chest-Measure around fullest part of bust, under arms and across shoulder blades, keeping tape measure level.Ladies-DO NOT give bra size, it is not the same.

Waist-Take measurement at natural waist. For high-waisted designs, also take measurement just under bust line and indicate where measurements were taken.

Hips-Measure around fullest part of hips.

Skirt Length-For dresses, measure from shoulder to finished length. For skirt only, measure from the waist to finished length. When measuring for high waisted garments, start this measurement just below bust line to finished length. Note: If back hem is to finish longer than front, example, modified train, please indicate front skirt and back skirt lengths. Also, if wearing over a full petticoat, cage crinoline, etc. wear it when you take this measurement. Please indicate what undergarments measurements are taken over.

Inseam-Measure inside leg from crotch to ankle.

Crotch Depth-While seated on solid surface, have measurement taken at side from waist to soild surface. Make sure you are sitting up straight, as this will affect measurement.

Note:Inseam and Crotch Depth needed for pantalettes, drawers, and any other leg covering.

Corsets-Due to fitting requirements, I do not do corsets for customers out of my area (Northeast MA) at this time. (Customer must be available for initial fitting.) MA residents ordering a corset, e-mail me for special measurement instructions. Indicate what period of costume your corset will be worn under.

This may seem like a lot of measurements, but I cannot over stress the importance of accurate measurements. The extra time spent now will be rewarded by a great fitting garment.

Thank you for your order.
